That includes you, Jeremy! You seem to have it bad for 100s! Sweet. Looks like you're running Vermont, too. Go get 'em.

I penned a respectful thank you and 'possible improvement suggestions' letter to the good Botts family (RDs of Old Dominion). Hopefully with a few minor tweaks with regards to aid stations and course markings next year's event will be that much better prepared for a true RALLY IN THE VALLEY.Neal Gormannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5332822485877032007.post-47749407595768489392011-06-08T23:17:03.298-04:002011-06-08T23:17:03.298-04:00Great job out there, consistent all day, you are a...Great job out there, consistent all day, you are a model for running hundreds. I had a lot of fun; was hoping to run a little better especially in the first half, but still happy to finish both MMT and OD. Not sure yet about the fall, but thinking about Grindstone. I was one of the runners who missed the fork @97mi last year secondary to vandals. THe OD crew did place the chem lights very high for this yr, and they were all out there. I was able to run 22H 54M, not the time I wanted 22H flast, h-ever I am happy. In addition my friend Kevin Mcguinness who got me into Ultras ran and finished his 1st 100mi in 23H 58M @ age 57!
Hope to see you on future runs
God Speed
John SpannuthAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5332822485877032007.post-78612107763386950572011-06-07T22:16:45.398-04:002011-06-07T22:16:45.398-04:00Yeah Neal! Namasté. same day (and night) I was happy to finish 4th W in a new, tricky 70k (+4800m) race on the Appenines here in Central Italy, from the plains to the ski resorts of Abetone,1900m. I felt it was my race, more uphill than down, so I studied it in every detail, eating, drinking every 30' and stopping shortly at aid station. Thanks to YOGAXRUNNERS that keeps me awake and aware! Karsten knew the course well so he didn't lose any time, whereas the other three each lost about 25 mins. Karsten pointed out on a map exactly where markings were missing, and by the time Keith came through (in 5th place I believe), everything was straightened out.

I wandered around at a road intersection around mile 90 last year looking for markings, and eventually had to guess (and thankfully guessed correctly).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5332822485877032007.post-53382895181599629342011-06-07T11:04:48.083-04:002011-06-07T11:04:48.083-04:00You are an animal, big congrats.

Once AJW gets to 10 WS finishes, I wager he will join you guys out there, as well as many other big dogs. Good for you for helping grow the event back up. If it wasn't a 100 and wasn't in the heat of Virginia, I would even consider it :-)

Did anyone go back and re-mark the course where it was vandalized? It seems that almost everyone I know has an OD story about poor course markings and/or vandalism that has kept CRs from being set or has DQ'd a few folks---one person was DQ'd at mile 95 b/c she was wandering around Woodstock looking for the course markings! If the race can get that part right, it looks like OD wll become a viable and affordable alternative to WS.

Great post and great job!
